St Agnes Carnival Returns in Spectacular Style

Thousands of people lined the streets of St Agnes on Saturday 1st August as the village came together for the 62nd St Agnes Carnival, celebrating another unforgettable evening of colour, creativity and community spirit.

Months of planning and preparation culminated in a spectacular procession featuring an incredible array of floats, walking groups, musicians and performers. From an impressive Top Gun aircraft carrier, the Bayeux Tapestry brought to life, and the much-loved Toy Story float, to a fishing boat, a Greek taverna, Harry Potter-inspired creations, a wedding chapel and even a wild animal cage, the imagination and craftsmanship on display were second to none.

Walking entries also proved hugely popular, with participants of all ages taking part. Solo entrants, large community groups, stilt walkers, families with decorated pushchairs and brilliantly choreographed performances all helped create a carnival that truly had something for everyone.

Music echoed throughout the village as the stirring pipes and drums accompanying Bolster the Giant, lively carnival bands and the energetic Sunny Spice Drummers kept spectators clapping, dancing and smiling along the route.

A new addition for 2026 was the Family Zone on Trevaunance Road. Visitors enjoyed delicious food and refreshments from local vendors, beautiful face painting and the chance to admire – and hear – a magnificent steam engine, which proved to be a firm favourite throughout the evening.

The carnival once again highlighted the remarkable talent and dedication within the local community. Every float, costume and performance represented weeks, and often months, of hard work by volunteers determined to make this year’s event a success.

The prestigious Best in Carnival award was presented to FOPPS for their outstanding entry, Bayeux Tapestry Comes Alive, while many other entrants were recognised for their creativity, humour, musical performances and craftsmanship.

Behind the scenes, dozens of volunteers worked tirelessly before and during the event, from organising the procession and coordinating road closures to marshalling the route, ensuring public safety and supporting participants throughout the evening. Their commitment, alongside the support of local businesses, food vendors, pubs, restaurants and sponsors, made it possible for the carnival to run smoothly.

The St Agnes Carnival Committee also thanked the thousands of spectators who packed the streets, creating the vibrant atmosphere that has become synonymous with the event. Donations collected throughout the evening will help support the future of the carnival, which costs around £8,000 each year to stage.
